Busy July & August for Arcadia Rural Fire Brigade, with the rest of the year shaping up to be no different.
The local community has responded to our recent advertising about volunteering, which has seen the brigade have 20 new recruits. They are busily preparing for their up-coming Basic Firefighter exam so they can join the rest of the crew on the fire ground.
Hazard reduction preparations are well underway for the year with the previous months seeing us able to complete some of those that have been identified for this year. It was also a great opportunity to work with our local community supporting them with reducing the fuels around their properties, property inspections, pile burns and preparing the other hazard reductions planned for the rest of the year. Fire and Rescue also visited the station to train with us, a great opportunity for the brigade.
On the 13th of August, the brigade attended the “Blessing of the Fleet” service at Galston Uniting Church, an annual event held before the beginning of each fire season to bless the members and the trucks for a safe season ahead.
Four of our volunteers are busily training for the MND Stair Climb, on October 14th in the city. The climb is to raise funds for motor neurone disease. The firefighters will be climbing 98 floors of the Sydney Tower, approximately 1504 stairs in full structural firefighting gear, which weighs 20kg+.
